While this section offers access to a number of basic descriptions of the social justice doctrine, these are no substitute for reading the original documents themselves. Since the encyclicals have all been promulgated since the 1890s, they remain accessible to the modern reader. These summaries are rooted in that doctrine, but should not be considered to be exhaustive treatments. The section on Catechesis has a section which includes bibliographies and links to a number of other journal, religious, and popular press articles that shed light on one or another aspect of the over-all social mission of the Church.
